This superb Gigondas from Domaine Saint Gayan is a reference point for the appellation, made from a traditional blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre that is vinified in cement vats and then aged in large, old oak casks. Lots of red fruit with notes of wild herbs on the nose. Lovely fruit right through the taste with hints of pepper and lovely fine tannins. Lovely finish of sweet dried fruit and floral notes. Really well-balanced wine that can be drunk up to 15 years, maybe more but will show beautifully between 5 and 10 years old.
