Although the Rheinhessen is the largest Anbaugebeit of all Germany’s fine wine regions and may turn out tanker trucks of insipid Müller Thurgau and lacking Liebfraumilch, this stretch of the Rhine between the Rheingau and the Pfalz also makes some serious Rieslings such as this full of heady floral notes, lasting fruity flavours and the racy acidity only low yields can bring. This is an excellent wine with food. Serve with pork, ham, scallops, salmon or tuna, even tartare, and Asian food.
